The tower PCs of the 1990s may now be landfill, but decades later the screensavers that danced across their screens are still burned into memory.

Whether it's winged toasters, flying Windows icons or a sprawling network of 3D pipes, the classic screensavers of yesteryear made a lasting impression.

Trying to figure out how to put Themes and Screensavers from Win 95 plus and get them working on Windows 7 just for nostalgia reasons. Anyone know how? The Golden Era & Mystery where my favorite theme & screensavers.

I think you can just run the Plus .exe installer and run the program.

They won't work. Most programs that old are difficult to run compatible with modern software without using emulation or virtual software. Your best bet, if you're even able to install it, is to run it in compatibility mode so that it's comparing to an older operating system. The issue with this method though is that if you're referring to the original pre-installed software, it's not trying to save as a separate activatible program, it'll try to save where the other screensavers are. In that case, you would probably need to have a virtual operating system, which is rather redundant for the purpose of a screensaver.
To be honest though, I don't know if it will work. I have a disk of Afterdark Screensavers, and those won't install off the disk for me, they didn't install off the disk when I was still using an XP laptop, it always comes up with some instillation error, supposedly a missing program. The only hope from here would be to look online for a version that has been re-configured to run on Windows 7.

Probably shouldn't matter, if it's a zip file you're still going to have to unzip it and run the executable. I imagine after it's unzipped and you've run the installer it will find a place itself to download to.

Try right clicking on the .exe, going to Properties --> Compatibility, checking 'Run in compatibility mode', and setting Compatibility to Windows 98 (or maybe 95).
